Job Purpose

Reporting to the Executive Director and Director of Operations, the Community Coordinator is responsible for class planning and coordination, social media, volunteer organization, and general space management. You will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director to achieve the goals of the organization. This position assists with marketing activities and event planning.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Establish and maintain good working relationships that are collaborative and mutually beneficial with

instructors and members to help achieve organizational goals.

● Assist with development and implementation of new classes, special events, and member events.

● Assist with the planning and execution of fundraising events to increase awareness, cultivate donors, and

generate funds.

● Ensure that legal requirements, best practices and Makerspace policies are met.

● Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to create communications related to internal events,

fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. This includes content creation and posting on social media platforms.

● Assist with donor relations and communications as needed.

● Act as a resource on developing collaborations and partnerships.

● Actively network with key contacts and organizations to represent the interests of Makerspace and stay

apprised of sector and community issues and activities.

● Foster relationships with brand ambassadors to empower and leverage their connections for the betterment of

Makerspace’s mission.

● Actively promote opportunities for community members to book Makerspace for private rentals and private

classes.

● Basic operational upkeep and maintenance on various tool and equipment throughout the space

● Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Considerable knowledge of fundraising concepts, community outreach, volunteer management best practices, and operations management for nonprofit organizations is an asset. Understanding of marketing and use of social media platforms is required.

The Community Coordinator must have a demonstrated ability to make informed and considered decisions that come to logical conclusions with a strong sense of community, and mitigate risk to the organization or the board.

Skills

  • This position begins on a 6 month term, with possibility of renewal or transition

  • This position is part time (16 hours per week), with flexible hours as required by the needs of the business

  • Working hours are flexible, and to be discussed during interview and time of hire

Working Conditions

The operating environment is such that staff may be required to work extra hours to meet the needs of the organization. While staff need to be flexible in their work schedules, Saskatoon Makerspace is committed to providing appropriate time-in-lieu and/or compensation, as well as a healthy work-life balance.

Some travel within Saskatoon may be required to attend meetings, community events, and learning opportunities.

Details

FTE: 0.40 - 0.50 FTE (16 - 20 hrs/week)

Business Hours: Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Compensation: $18-$22/hour, The starting wage will be based on experience.
