In this hands-on three hour workshop at Saskatoon Makerspace, participants will explore the cyanotype process and create a custom print on both paper and a cotton tote bag.
Our instructor will introduce the history of the medium, demonstrate how cyanotype solution is applied to paper and fabric, and share examples made with photographs, botanicals and everyday objects.
Participants will learn how to scan a photograph, edit it in Adobe Photoshop, invert it into a negative and prepare a transparency for printing. The workshop will also cover which objects and surfaces work well for cyanotype, how to prepare materials for future projects, and how to build a simple light-exposure setup at home.
Each participant will create a cyanotype print on paper, and arrange and expose a design on a prepared cotton tote bag (due to exposure and processing times, some tote bags may need to be picked up from Saskatoon Makerspace the following day). By the end of the workshop, you will understand the process and have the skills to continue experimenting with cyanotype on paper, fabric and other suitable surfaces.
This beginner-friendly workshop requires no drawing or previous art experience. Participants will also be encouraged to bring one photograph they may like to incorporate into their pieces.

We do not offer full refunds for classes. Class tickets can be transferred to another date as long as you contact us at least 4 days in advance so we have time to sell your ticket to someone else. We will only transfer your ticket to the next class one time. With less than 4 days notice, we can refund 50% of the ticket price.
Our classes are primarily designed for adults, however we do allow youth ages 14+ to come to a class with a parent/guardian. Anyone 16+ is allowed to go to a class on their own but must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian.
*Soap making being the exception, it is an 18+ class.
