Our Youth Ceramics Course is designed specifically for young makers ages 8 to 12. We invite young creators to join our weekly hands-on classes, which run for 2 hours per session for 6 consecutive weeks. To ensure every participant receives personal attention from the instructor, we keep our groups small, with just 6 students per class.
All materials are included: clay, glazes and two kiln firings (bisque and a glaze) are included in the course price.
Working with clay offers wonderful benefits for young makers. It is an excellent way to develop fine motor skills and spatial thinking, while also helping participants learn a new skill.
Throughout the course, participants will experience the entire journey of making ceramics, from a soft piece of clay to a finished, durable object. They will master the essential techniques of hand-building, including working with solid clay pieces, rolling out slabs, and using the coil method. Participants will also learn the exciting basics of working on the potter's wheel, discovering how to center and shape clay. We will also teach them how to work with color, decorate their pieces using underglazes, and apply glazes correctly. This complete process is great for building patience, focus and dedication to a creative goal.
Class dates: September 20, 27, October 4, 11, 18 and 25
